Lilian Lara

Pronouns
she/her

Lilian Lara is a multidisciplinary artist working across fashion, textiles, paper mache, and installations to create outrageous displays of pageantry out of the everyday. Rooted in rascuachismo, Lara’s practice embraces making the most from the least through stitching, embellishment, and material experimentation. Lara’s practice serves as an act of cultural preservation, resistance, and celebration, affirming the power of art to connect people across generations and borders. By blending traditional Mexican influences with contemporary craft, Lara builds accessible spaces that invite viewers into worlds where heritage, ingenuity, and collective memory take center stage.

Lara builds on her creative talents and 15+ years as an educator to make art fun and accessible to an intergenerational audience. She has worked with schools, transitional housing, museums, and various non-profits to bring hands-on culturally relevant programming to K-12 classrooms, afterschool programs, summer camps, workshops, and internship programs. Lara believes art should be accessible and practiced by all on a regular basis as a part of the human experience.

Her work has been shown locally and nationally at The Museum of Contemporary Art Denver, Museo de las Americas, Denver Fashion Week, Denver Art Museum, Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, The John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts (Washington, DC), and New York’s Times Square (NY).
