Cipriano Ortega is a multidisciplinary artist and teaching artist whose work spans visual art, music, theater, and other forms of creative expression. Their work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and explores the ways culture, identity, and social structures shape how we see ourselves and the world around us. Drawing on their perspective as an Indigenous artist of color, Cipriano invites audiences to question assumptions, challenge conventions, and consider new ways of understanding the world.
As an educator, Cipriano has taught K-12 arts education programs through the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities, taught university-level courses at the Colorado School of Mines, and regularly facilitates creative writing and arts workshops with Lighthouse Writers Workshop and Art from Ashes. Their practice also includes a 2024 artist residency with Breck Create and a summer 2026 family exhibition at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art (BMoCA), where they exhibited alongside their parents, artists Tony Ortega and Sylvia Montero. Across their artistic and educational work, Cipriano creates opportunities for people to explore ideas, share perspectives, and discover new possibilities through art.
