“My workshops provide participants with opportunities to tell the stories of their lives, explore complex social and emotional dynamics, and practice using their voices as tools for transformation, all while developing music and writing skills. Every time we meet, we create a safe space together, where we give each other plenty of positive feedback and encouragement as we try new things.
As a teaching artist, my mission is to support workshop participants in their artistic development, whether or not they already consider themselves artists (I believe everyone is, in their own unique ways). A big part of art is connection: to our inner selves, to each other, to our audiences and communities, to nature, to the world. In my groups, we put our creativity to use in exploring the connections we already have, while building new ones.”
Andrea performs as a violinist and vocalist, and has authored and translated several dozen books.

Bilingual Explorations of Latin Music
How do you explain the differences between cumbia and tango? Have you ever wondered about the stories behind famous Spanish-language songs? Las Chispas, a jazz quartet that specializes in Latin styles, presents interactive, bilingual concerts exploring different aspects of music. Students are invited to participate and engage with the musicians in Spanish and in English. Shows can be tailored to complement what your students are studying in music, and/or social studies. Vamos a aprender y hacer música juntos!
