Educational Performances
Spirit Voices
This performance consists of African and African-American folktales and stories from other cultures that incorporate and encourage audience participation. The program teaches students and teachers about the call and response tradition in the African and African-American culture. Spirit Voices includes music, drumming, props, and African dress.
Single Performance: $500
Double Performance: $860

Workshop
Create a Life Story
This 45-minute workshop is available to 10-12 students, which will give students an opportunity to work on creating stories from the students’ experience, families, pets, and school, etc. donnie will teach about drumming, passing stories on to one another, and how to use stories to teach many subjects such as math, history and spelling. donnie also teaching a radio drama workshop. This workshops teachs young people about story telling before TV, computer, and talking films. Who knows, we may create a story using texting.

Artist-In-Residence
donnie l. betts has many years of experience in theatre, film, radio and video. betts studied at Yale School of Drama. He is a founding member of two theatre companies in Denver; City Stage Ensemble and the Denver Black Arts Company. He has performed on Broadway in "The Gospel at Colonus" with Morgan Freeman and in many regional theatre productions including over 13 seasons at the Denver Center Theatre Company including the very first production of the company. .
betts directed House With No Walls for Curious Theatre Company, Emperor Jones and Hi Hat Hattie for Aurora Fox, Miss Ever Boys, and Before It Hits Home and over 25 additional productions across the country. donnie has been a professional storyteller for twenty years weaving tales from the American South, African and African American folktales and well as other cultures. He adds drumming and tremendous interactive between young and young at heart. He has conducted workshops throughout Colorado, Georgia, Burkina Faso and Texas.
donnie produces and directs the award-winning live radio drama series Destination Freedom/Black Radio Days, which tells the untold stories of Black Heroes and Sheroes pre the 1960’s movement.
