Digistars Make-a-Movie Workshop Ltd.

Kids can make great, quality movies… with a little guidance!

We bring college-level “Production 101” courses to the under-14 set. Our experienced instructors have film degrees and are working filmmakers who love kids and are trained in the tried-and-true Digistars methodology. Our goal is to teach the ideas and skills of digital storytelling under the guise of having fun making movies. Our students may not realize they are learning concepts that will carry over into their academic and future professional lives, but their teachers can tell.

The Digistars Make-a-Movie Workshop Ltd. was founded in 2014 to bring the curricula developed for a filmmaking program at an elementary school for the gifted and talented to a larger population. Now serving students in grades 1 through 8 across the Denver metro area, a Digistars educational program uses the vehicle of digital storytelling to enhance the knowledge and understanding of a unit of academic study.

Using either Ken-Burns-style documentary filmmaking, green screen technology, or stop motion animation (ClaymationTM) to tell the story, the topic of study is at the discretion of the teacher. A partial list of previous units includes:

• Extreme Weather (climatology)
• Objects in Outer Space (astronomy)
• Historical Colorado Figures (history)
• Australia (geography)
• Rocks (geology)
• Ancient Egypt (history)
• Civil Rights Figures (social studies)
• Mythology (literature)

Each educational program is tailored to satisfy the teacher’s requirements and to work in tandem with the academic curriculum. Teachers can save funds by providing pre-production support and preparing the students for filmmaking. We can provide Apple iPads, or use ones available at the school.
